Vignette Categories in Slovenia

Types of Slovenian vignettes Choosing the correct vignette category for your vehicle

In 2013, Slovenia introduced one of the most distinctive vehicle classification systems in Europe. A vehicle's category is determined by three factors:

  • gross vehicle weight (GVW),
  • vehicle type,
  • vehicle height h measured above the front axle.

In Slovenia, the electronic vignette system covers all vehicles up to 3,5 tonnes. Vehicles above this weight use the DarsGo system instead.

Fines in Slovenia

Slovenian VignettesE-vignette enforcement

E-vignette compliance is monitored by DARS, the Financial Administration, and the Police.

Checks are carried out in three ways:

  • fixed cameras on motorways,
  • at control points,
  • by mobile toll control vehicles.

When a valid e-vignette is confirmed by the system, the vehicle data is deleted immediately. If a violation is detected, the data is retained until the minor offence procedure is completed.

Slovenia operates one of the most precise e-vignette monitoring systems in Europe – driving without a valid Slovenian vignette is equivalent to receiving a fine.

Slovenian VignettesFines for missing vignette

Driving without a valid e-vignette results in the following fines:

  • missing short-term vignette – €300–€800,
  • missing annual vignette – up to €1,200.

Driving on a toll road without a valid e-vignette is a legal offence – the standard fine is €300.

Transferring a registration plate linked to an e-vignette to another vehicle (particularly one in a different toll category) carries a fine of €500.

If a violation is detected, the driver is automatically assigned an e-vignette valid from the date of the offence – after the fine has been paid. The most cost-effective option (or combination of options) for the driver is applied.

An invoice may also be issued, accompanied by a ban on using toll roads until all charges are settled.

Don't risk the fines!
