Placing and editing orders
Czech Republic Vignettes Placing orders
Czech vignettes can be purchased online, best before leaving home to avoid problems on the way. To place an order, in addition to choosing the vignette type and validity period, you will need to provide:
- the vehicle registration number,
- the country of registration,
- the vignette start date.
Payment does not immediately entitle you to use toll roads in the Czech Republic. You must wait for the correctly purchased vignette to be delivered – usually within 15 minutes of payment. This is related to possible maintenance work on the toll collection systems, outages and other interruptions to the IT infrastructure that may affect the moment the Czech vignette purchase is processed.
According to eDalnice.cz data, the most common mistakes made when ordering a Czech vignette are: typos in the registration number (e.g. O↔0), selecting the wrong country of registration, purchasing a vignette with the wrong start date, and missing payment confirmation.
To avoid mistakes, it is worth carefully checking the details before confirming the purchase, or using the "Správa známky" function, which allows you to correct the vignette before it becomes valid. After making the payment and receiving confirmation, you can check the validity of the vignette on the official website of the Czech road operator.
Czech Republic Vignettes Editing and Returning a Vignette
Vignettes that have not yet started can be edited: you can change the date (up to 30 days ahead), registration number, country of registration, and travel dates. Vignettes that are already valid can only have up to 2 characters changed in the registration number, with the total character count remaining unchanged. Once validity has started, a vignette cannot be returned, regardless of whether you entered Czechia or not. For details on editing and refunds: Refunds and vignette editing
Czech Vignettes | Inspections & Fines
Czech Republic Vignettes How are vignettes checked?
Checks are mainly performed by fixed cameras along motorways, which automatically scan number plates and compare them to the central database. Police patrols equipped with mobile recognition systems also check vignettes. Photos of vehicles taken by the system are stored only temporarily – until it is confirmed that the vehicle had a valid vignette or exemption. Data is automatically deleted after verification.
Czech Republic Vignettes Fines for driving without a vignette
If you drive on toll roads without a valid vignette, you risk a fine up to CZK 20,000 (around €800). Most commonly, the fine is up to 200 EUR.
Additional penalties up to CZK 100,000 (around €4,000) apply if you use an exemption improperly or fail to register it. If cameras detect your vehicle, the Czech authorities can send a fine and evidence to the registered owner.

Frequently Asked Questions | FAQ
Is the motorway from Dresden to Prague tolled?
Yes. The Czech section of the motorway from Dresden to Prague (D8) requires a vignette for vehicles up to 3,5 tonnes. You must have the vignette already when entering the Czech motorway – right after crossing the border in Petrovice. On the German side (A17), no tolls apply.
How far can you drive in the Czech Republic without a vignette?
It depends. In the Czech Republic, you may drive on local roads and toll-free motorway sections. If your route only includes such roads, there's no limit on the driving distance. However, most main connections between cities involve toll roads, so travelling without a vignette may require detours.
Is it possible to travel to Karlovy Vary without a vignette?
Yes. It is possible, but you'll need to use local roads instead of the D6 motorway, which requires a vignette. This route will be longer and less comfortable. If time is a concern, it's better to purchase a Czech vignette for Karlovy Vary and use the main roads.
Do I need to print the e-vignette?
No. After purchasing the vignette via the Autopay website or app, you'll receive it by email as a PDF. It will also be available in the app if you choose that option.
Which Czech motorways are tolled?
You can check the tolled sections of Czech motorways in the table on this page.
What are the vignette prices in the Czech Republic?
What are the vignette discounts in the Czech Republic?
Eco vignettes in the Czech Republic are 50% cheaper than the standard price and apply to vehicles powered by natural gas (CNG) or biomethane (bioLNG). Owners of plug-in hybrid vehicles emitting no more than 50g CO₂/km pay 25% of the base rate. Note: The discount does not apply to LPG-powered vehicles.
What is the fine for driving without a vignette in the Czech Republic?
Driving on toll roads without a valid vignette can result in a fine of up to CZK 20,000 (around €800). If you misuse an exemption or fail to register it, the penalty can be as high as CZK 100,000 (about €4,000).
Can you buy a Czech vignette at the border?
Yes, you can purchase a vignette at border crossings, petrol stations, post offices or self-service kiosks. Please note that kiosks only accept card payments.
How long is a Czech vignette valid?
It depends on the type you choose: 1-day, 10-day, 30-day or 365-day. The vignette is valid from the selected start date, either from midnight or the moment of purchase if activated immediately.
