Slovak Vignettes | Key Facts
In Slovakia, motorways are paid for using vignettes, which take the form of an electronic PDF confirmation. The vignette is linked to the vehicle's registration number, and checks are carried out by a camera system on tolled sections and by authorised services. You can buy a Slovak vignette online with Autopay – with no need to look for points of sale along the way.
Where are vignettes required?
Slovak vignettes are required on motorways (D) and expressways (R) in Slovakia.
Who has to buy them?
Vehicles up to 3,5 tonnes and trailers when the combined weight of the rig exceeds 3,5 tonnes.

Tolled Sections in Slovakia
In Slovakia, vignettes are required on motorways and selected expressways. Check the map and the list of sections to make sure whether you need a vignette.
Tolled sections Map
Tolled sections - Roads marked in yellow require a vignette.
Toll-free sections - Roads marked in black are free of charge.
New toll-free sections - Roads marked in red are newly opened and free of charge.
Toll road signage How to recognise tolled sections in Slovakia
Look for motorway and expressway signs – green boards with the motorway symbol for D roads and red ones for R roads. When entering a tolled section, you will see a standard motorway sign (a white motorway on a blue background) and an additional board reading "Diaľničná známka" or "Spoplatnený úsek", informing you that a Slovak e-vignette is required.
Toll-free sections Where the toll-free sections are located
In Slovakia, vehicles up to 3,5 tonnes may travel free of charge on all roads in the country, except for the national roads designated by law on sections classified as tolled (motorways and expressways). In addition, some motorway stretches have been exempted from tolls, e.g. the Bratislava ring road and the Žilina ring road. To check correctly whether a toll is required, we encourage you to use the map of tolled sections.

Types and Validity of Slovak Vignettes
Vignette validity How long vignettes are valid
In Slovakia, 4 types of e-vignettes are available according to the validity period: a 1-day, 10-day, 30-day and 365-day vignette. Below are the rules for calculating validity:
Vignette for a specified day (1-day)
The "one-day" vignette is valid on the day specified in the order, until 23:59 on that day. This means that when you buy a vignette "for today", it is valid from the moment of purchase until 23:59 the same day. When you buy a vignette for a future date, it is valid for the whole of the selected day.
10-day vignette
A 10-day Slovak vignette is valid from the day specified in the order plus 9 subsequent days, until 23:59 on the last day. If the validity in the order is set to "from today", the vignette takes effect from the moment of purchase in the system and expires according to the rule above.
30-day vignette
Valid from the day specified in the order, until 23:59 on the same day of the following month. If the month in which the vignette's validity expires does not have such a day, the vignette expires on the last day of that month at 23:59.
365-day vignette
A 365-day Slovak vignette is valid from the date specified in the order plus 364 days. If the validity in the order is set to "from today", the vignette takes effect from the moment of purchase in the system and expires according to the rule above.
Types of Slovak vignettes Choosing the vignette type for your vehicle category
| Vignette category | Vignette purpose |
|---|---|
| M1 | Passenger vehicles up to 3,5 tonnes |
| O1/O2 | Trailers |
Slovak vignettes Prices
| Vignette type | Vehicle | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Slovakia vignette for 1 day | Car up to 3,5 t (up to 9 persons) | 13.00 € |
| Slovakia vignette for 10 days | Car up to 3,5 t (up to 9 persons) | 16.00 € |
| Slovakia vignette for 30 days | Car up to 3,5 t (up to 9 persons) | 22.50 € |
| Slovakia vignette for 365 days | Car up to 3,5 t (up to 9 persons) | 100.00 € |
| Slovakia vignette for 1 day | Trailer (combination over 3,5 t) | 13.00 € |
| Slovakia vignette for 10 days | Trailer (combination over 3,5 t) | 16.00 € |
| Slovakia vignette for 30 days | Trailer (combination over 3,5 t) | 22.50 € |
| Slovakia vignette for 365 days | Trailer (combination over 3,5 t) | 100.00 € |
Remember!
Slovak vignettes apply to vehicle category M1 and to rigs with an O1/O2 trailer. If the combined weight of the rig (car + trailer) exceeds 3,5 t, you will need to buy an additional vignette for the trailer. The weight of the vehicle and the trailer should be determined from the entries in their registration documents, adding together the two maximum permissible gross weight values.
Placing and Editing Orders
Slovak Vignettes Placing orders
It is best to buy a Slovak vignette online before you set off; this helps you avoid problems along the way (e.g. issues with a terminal or a payment card). To buy a vignette with us, you need to provide:
- the vehicle's registration number (in capital letters, without spaces or hyphens),
- the country of registration,
- the start date of the vignette's validity.
Paying for the order does not always mean you can immediately drive on Slovak roads – wait until you receive the toll payment confirmation (the e-vignette). You will usually receive the confirmation within 15 minutes of payment.
The customer is solely responsible for the accuracy of the data provided above. If the data provided is incorrect or incomplete, the customer should correct it without delay, and at the latest within 15 minutes of submitting this data to the service provider.
The driver or the user of the vehicle or combination of vehicles is obliged to pay the toll by purchasing a vignette before using the designated sections of motorways and expressways in Slovakia.
Slovak Vignettes Editing and returning vignettes
Once the validity has begun, refunds are not possible, regardless of whether you have entered a tolled road. The Slovak e-vignette system allows the vignette to be modified only within a very limited time window, usually 15 minutes from the moment the order is paid. When buying at a kiosk or point of sale, you also have about 15 minutes to make corrections (start date, number, country). After this time, changes are no longer possible. You can find more on this topic in the section: Refunds and editing of tolls
Inspections and Fines in Slovakia
Vignette validity inspection How are vignettes checked?
The monitoring system automatically detects vehicles without a valid vignette using cameras (fixed and mobile), which scan number plates and compare them with the central database. Police patrols also verify vignettes using mobile devices.
Consequences of not paying Fines for not having a valid vignette
The penalty for driving without a vignette can be up to 600 EUR, although it is most often around 120 EUR. The fine may be issued within 30 days, and if you pass through several control points – even several times over. Buying a vignette after a violation has been detected does not cancel the penalty. In the event of an appeal, the proof of purchase serves as evidence.
Important
At present it is not possible to buy a vignette retrospectively. According to announcements, from 2026 there are plans to allow paying for a vignette for a given day until midnight of the following day.
