Are there vignettes?
No. In Croatia you pay at toll gates for the motorway section you actually drive.
How do the toll gates work?
You take a ticket on entry and pay on exit. With the toll box both steps happen on their own.
What does the rate depend on?
On the vehicle category, the number of axles, the height above the front axle and the length of the section.
How do you pay?
In cash or by card in euros, or automatically in the ENC system – with a toll box.

Are vignettes required in Croatia?
No. Tolls are collected at toll gates – you take a ticket on entry and pay on exit for the section you drove.
Do I need vignettes to get to Croatia?
It depends on your route. Many transit countries, including Austria, Slovenia and Hungary, require an e-vignette on motorways. You can buy them online in one order.
What is the ENC system?
It is the Croatian electronic toll collection system. The EETS toll box from Autopay works at the ENC gates, so you do not need a separate local reader.
Does the toll box work in Istria?
No. The Istrian Y network run by BINA Istra is not supported – there you pay by card or in cash.
When is the toll box worth it?
When you drive to Croatia regularly, in the holiday season or through several countries with toll gates. For an occasional trip, paying on the spot is enough.
How do you pay for Croatian motorways without a toll box?
At the toll gate in cash or by payment card. Tolls are charged in euros (€).
Which roads in Croatia are free?
The national roads, including the D8 along the coast (Rijeka – Split – Dubrovnik) and the D1 (Zagreb – Plitvice – Split). They are free of charge but slower than the motorways.
