How to Recognize Toll Roads in Slovakia?
Look for motorway and expressway signs - they are marked with green boards displaying a white motorway symbol
(D roads) or red boards (R roads).
When entering toll sections, you’ll see a standard motorway sign (a white motorway on a blue background) and
an additional sign reading “Diaľničná známka” (motorway vignette) or “Spoplatnený úsek” (toll section) -
informing that a Slovak e-vignette is required.
Remember the e-vignette - in Slovakia, an electronic
vignette linked to your vehicle registration number is mandatory.

Slovak Vignette Types
You can buy an e-vignette for Slovakia for the following 4 validity periods:
Slovak Vignette
1-day vignette
The 1-day electronic vignette, bought in advance, is valid from midnight to 23:59 on the selected day. If you buy it on the day of travel, it's valid from the time of purchase until 23:59 the same day. Remember: it does not cover a full 24 hours.
Slovak Vignette
10-day vignette
The 10-day electronic vignette is valid from the start date specified in the order for 10 consecutive days, including weekends and holidays.
Slovak Vignette
30-day vignette
The monthly electronic vignette is valid from the chosen date for the following 29 days, a total of 30 days.
Slovak Vignette
365-day (annual) vignette
The annual electronic vignette is valid from the date specified in the order for 365 days. If purchased with immediate effect, it's valid from the moment of purchase.
Good to know:
In Slovakia, motorway vignettes apply to
two vehicle categories: M1 and O1 / O2. The M1 category covers cars up to 3.5 tonnes carrying no more than 9
passengers. The O1 and O2 categories refer to combinations of vehicles with trailers. If the total weight
exceeds 3.5 tonnes, you must purchase an additional vignette for the trailer.

Editing and Returning a Vignette
The Slovak e-vignette system offers 2 options for editing your vignette details.
You can modify a vignette if it meets the following conditions:
- Has not yet started validity - you can edit the registration number, country of registration, or travel dates within 15 minutes of placing your order.
- Is already valid, but with restrictions - you can only change up to 2 characters in the registration number, and the total number of characters must remain the same.
Once the validity period has begun, the vignette cannot be refunded, regardless of whether you have entered
Slovakia. If you purchase a vignette in person, you also have 15 minutes to correct any mistakes, such as the
start date, registration number or country of registration.
After this time, no further changes are permitted.
Slovak Vignettes
How are vignettes checked?
The monitoring system in Slovakia automatically detects vehicles without a valid vignette through cameras
installed on the roads or mobile cameras.
They scan number plates and compare them to the central database.
Police patrols equipped with mobile recognition systems also check vignettes.

Fines for driving without a vignette
The fine for not having a vignette in Slovakia can be up to €600.
The fine can be issued within 30 days. If you go through several checkpoints, the fine may be charged several
times.
Purchasing a vignette after an infringement has been detected does not cancel the fine. In the event of a wrongly
imposed fine, the proof of purchase (receipt) is the only evidence that allows you to challenge it.
Remember:
As for now, it is not possible to buy a Slovak
vignette retrospectively. The Slovak system does not provide immediate options for changing the parameters of the
vignette after it has been purchased. From 2026, it will be possible to pay for the vignette for a given day until
midnight of the following day.
